KI.Fabrik

What is KI.Fabrik?
KI.Fabrik (the German word of AI Factory) is a project funded by Bavaria state. This flagship project is part of the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda and a lighthouse initiative of the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence at the Technical University of Munich.
KI.Fabrik (phase one) is consists of two projects. The KI.FABRIK infrastructure project (total budget: €9.9M), led by the Chair of Robotics and System Intelligence (RSI), is developing an AI-driven factory to serve as both a prototype and a research laboratory. The KI.FABRIK FuE project (total budget: €3.16M) is a research and development initiative leveraging the facilities developed by the KI.FABRIK infrastructure. It partners with eight chairs across TUM and several industry companies.
The general goal of the project is to innovate new robotics and AI technologies to facilitate flexible manufacturing. The world is becoming more and more chaotic in a de-globalization trend, and the manufacturing industry is facing more and more challenges due to the unstable global supply chain. The ability to quickly adapt the production lines to the changing market demand and manufacture small-batch products is key for the Europe to regain its manufacturing competitiveness.
